Distracted Driving Is the Cause Of Most Car Accidents
Distracted driving is quickly becoming one of the worst epidemics on our country’s roads. The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute published a study claiming that distractions cause the most car accidents. This is despite the numerous programs and initiatives by agencies on the state and federal level to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while distracted.
The three-year study entitled the Second Strategic Highway Research program focused on more than 3,500 drivers between the ages of 16 and 98 years. The drivers allowed researchers to install video cameras in their vehicles to follow them as they drove. The researchers also tracked various factors including speed and location as part of the study. After analyzing 900 motor vehicle crashes, researchers concluded that drivers were distracted in 68 percent of the crashes. […]
What Can A Boca Raton Personal Injury Attorney Do To Help Me?
An insurance adjuster will tell you that a personal injury attorney cannot do anything that you cannot do yourself to settle your accident claim. Some adjusters may go as far as to tell you that a personal injury attorney will only charge a high fee for doing the same work so that you receive less money for your accident claim.
What you must remember is that the insurance adjuster is not looking out for your best interest. The insurance adjuster’s job is to pay you as little as possible to settle your accident claim. Insurance companies are in business to make money; therefore, paying you for your accident claim is not in the insurance company’s best interest. The adjuster works for the insurance company — the adjuster does not work for you. […]

Is Your Child’s Car Seat Keeping Your Child Safe?
It is important to ensure that your child’s car seat is protecting your child every time you buckle your child in; however, as families prepare for the busy summer travel season, reviewing child car seat safety tips can help prevent a tragic accident.
Children’s Car Seat Safety By The Numbers
According to the Centers for Disease Control:
- More than 127,500 children 12 years of age and under were injured in motor vehicle accidents during 2013. During that same year, 638 children in the same age bracket died in motor vehicle accidents.
- Thirty-eight percent of the children who died in car crashes during 2013, were not in a child safety seat or a seat belt at the time of the collision.
- One study found that over 618,000 children from 0 to 12 years rode in a vehicle without a car seat, booster seat, or wearing a seat belt in one year.
- Seat belt use reduces the risk of serious injury and death for older children by one half.
- Using a booster seat reduces the risk of serious injury by forty-five percent for children four to eight years of age compared to using a seat belt alone.
- Using a car seat reduces the risk of death to infants by seventy-one percent and by fifty-four percent for toddlers.
Driver Runs Over Motorcyclists in Lutz
We are not sure if this would qualify as an “accident” because the victim is alleging the driver intentionally ran over him and his passenger; however, for the purposes of a personal injury lawsuit, this motorcycle “accident” does appear to qualify for compensation.
What is Being Alleged By The Accident Victim?
Because of amateur video shot by a bystander, it is difficult to dispute the actual moments when the driver ran over the motorcycle. According to Joseph Calderazzo, he was riding with a companion on his Harley Davidson motorcycle on Memorial Day afternoon when the driver of a silver Pontiac swerved into his lane. At the next intersection, Calderazzo commented on the person’s driving abilities resulting in the driver of the Pontiac to back up and run over the motorcycle knocking Calderazzo and his companion off of the bike. The video, which has not gone viral online, shows the bizarre event unfold. […]
Florida Teen Drivers At Greater Risk For Accidents This Summer
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, teen drivers are at a higher risk of being involved in an accident than any other time during the year. For this reason, the time between these two national holidays is dubbed the “100 Deadliest Days For Teen Drivers.” Over 5,000 people died from 2010 to 2014 in car accidents involving teen drivers during the 100 deadliest days of summer. Parents need to be aware of the dangers and the increased risk for teen drivers of being involved in a car crash during the summer.
Teens have more time on their hands during the summer; therefore, those with a driver’s license and a vehicle are on the road much more than during the school year. Furthermore, teen drivers are more likely to have more passengers in the vehicle during the summer than during the school year and they are more likely to travel new routes as they enjoy many of the summer activities in Florida from the beach to the amusement parks.
